About a year and a half ago, I had the privilege of working with Katherine Ross, the creator of Wear LACMA, on a capsule collection inspired by art in the museum's permanent collection. I've been asked to take part in the Wear LACMA initiative for the museum's 50th anniversary, which they've just launched in partnership with Farfetch. I'm one of 19 notable Los Angeles-based designers who have created exclusive fashion items. Here's most of the group with Katherine Ross, including Irene Neuwirth, Anita Ko, Greg Lauren, Gregory Parkinson, Greg Chait of The Elder Statesman and Monique Lhuillier, captured by @yerinmok. The inspiration for the capsule came from this 18th Century French vest from the museum's Costume and Textile collection. The elaborate workmanship and artistry that went into this vest allowed me to take elements of it and create quite unique pieces. The navy and cream striped chiffon clutch is inspired from the trim of the vest and on the collar of the vest, the words "Charmant Charmant" are embroidered. We've incorporated that element into the lining of the bags as an element of the unexpected and printed it on the blush tee as well.
The pieces I've created include two hand-sewn clutches, both beaded and in chiffon, and two printed t-shirts, printed with "Charmant Charmant" and "L'Habit Ne Fait Pas Le Moine." During one of the days when we spent prepping, I caught this cute photo of George Esquivel and JC Obando, two amazingly talented LA designers, who are both also participating in the initiative. Make sure to check out the items on Farfetch and at Lacma.org x cv
